Oxford and Cambridge Musical Club |

NAME
The Club shall be called the “Oxford and Cambridge Musical Club”.
OBJECTS
The objects of the Club shall be :
to promote and extend the knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of music generally;
to hold meetings where music shall be performed by members and guests.
MEMBERS
The following shall be eligible as members of the Club:
Past and present members of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge;
Other persons who support the objects of the Club
Every candidate for admission shall be proposed by a member of the Club.
The election of all members shall be vested in the Committee.
HONORARY MEMBERS
Persons of conspicuous distinction and persons who have given special service to the Club may be elected Honorary Members by the Committee. Honorary members shall be exempt from the payment of any subscription.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
The annual subscription shall be determined from time to time by a General Meeting of the Club.
Members who have no residence or place of business or of regular occupation within 40 miles of Charing Cross shall be regarded as country members and may subscribe at half rate;
Members not in gainful employment may subscribe at half rate;
Members under the age of 26 are entitled to free membership;
Couples residing at the same address may pay a joint subscription equal to three-quarters of aggregate subscriptions otherwise payable.
Any lapsed member of the Club who wishes to rejoin the Club shall be required to pay his/her subscription by Standing Order
The annual subscription shall be due and payable on January 1st in each year. The subscription paid by members joining on or after September 1st will remain current until the end of the next calendar year.
TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
A member shall cease to be a member
if he resigns by notice in writing to the Committee;
upon death;
if he shall for six months fail or neglect to pay any subscription due to the Club and the Committee resolves that for that reason he shall cease to be a member;
if any general meeting of the Club shall so resolve.
PRESIDENT
There shall be a President, appointed by the Committee, who shall ipso facto be an honorary member of the Club.
COMMITTEE
The affairs of the Club shall be managed by a Committee. Twelve members of the Committee shall be elected at the annual general meeting and the Committee shall have power to co-opt further members either to fill vacancies in this number or as additional members. Five members of the Committee shall form a quorum.
The Committee shall elect annually from their number a Chairman, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Music Secretary, a Music Librarian and a Membership Secretary.
The Committee shall elect a Music Committee with a Secretary.
The Committee shall be responsible for managing the property of the Club and may at their discretion sell or otherwise dispose of any such property, provided that the Committee shall not sell or otherwise dispose of any part of the Club Library (including pictures) without prior approval by a majority of two thirds of the members present at a general meeting. A bank account shall be opened in the name of the Club and the Treasurer shall be authorised to sign cheques in the name of the Club. The Treasurer may receive donations on behalf of the Club. The Committee may conclude, vary or determine any contract on behalf of the Club with any person.
The Treasurer shall keep accounting records with respect to:
all sums of money received and expended on behalf of the Club and the matter in respect of which the receipt or expenditure takes place; and
the assets and liabilities of the Club.
The accounts shall be submitted periodically for inspection and consideration by the Committee and shall be laid before each Annual General Meeting.
If the Club at any time has the use of premises, the Committee may from time to time make rules about admission and other matters relating to the use of the premises. Neither the Club nor any of its officers are liable to any member or visitor for any loss or damage to any property occurring from whatever cause on or about the premises of any Club meeting.
GENERAL MEETING
There shall be an Annual General Meeting of the Club on a date to be fixed by the Committee.
The Committee may call a special general meeting of the Club and shall do so if requested by at least ten members.
Fourteen days notice shall be given of a general meeting, whether annual or special, but accidental failure to notify any member or members shall not invalidate the proceedings of any such meeting. Ten members shall form a quorum.
ALTERATION OF RULES
No alteration shall be made in these rules except by a majority of two thirds of the members present at a general meeting.
