The Solstice Quartet was formed in September last year, three of its members having previously played together in a quartet at Dulwich College, London. Since foundation the quartet has received coaching from Howard Davis, Natalie Clein, James Boyd, and members of the Endellion Quartet through the University Instrumental Award Scheme, for which they are all award holders. Later this month they will perform Barber’s String Quartet and ‘Dover Beach’ with David Wilson-Johnson and in March they will perform Shostakovich’s 8th Quartet for the UK Shostakovich Society. In July they will give a recital at the Isle of Man Festival, and at the Aberystwyth International Musicfest they will perform the Mendelssohn Octet with the world-renowned Karol Szymanowski Quartet from Germany.
